My grandfather put a camera in my hands when I was about ten years old. Professional training teaches you how to work a camera; his guiding eye taught me how to see. I am a grandfather myself now, and virtually everything I make is still about family and children.

Photography is only the beginning and a camera is only a tool. Portraiture with personality is created, not simply taken. Your image may be captured with a camera, but your personality is painted with a brush — today's technology, traditional mixed media, and that same guiding eye, used to reveal the person rather than record the face.

Nothing here is a one size fits all package. Every commission begins with a design consultation, in your own home or at the studio gallery, where we talk about who you are as a family and where the work will hang. You get everything you want and none of what you don't.

I am a nationally certified professional photographer, which means my prints are judged against a standard by a panel rather than by the person who paid for them. It is worth asking any portrait artist you are considering whether they are certified, and if they are not, why not.

Sometimes the best reward is seeing the smiles and feeling the emotions of families I have come to know, which is why a good deal of my time and work goes to organisations that need it. I live to be that warm hug everyone needs.
